I’m not being lazy
December 24, 2006
I am actually working on getting a new site setup on a new as-of-yet undecided domain. I’ll let everyone know where I’ve moved to once I get the site up and running. Hopefully within the month.
On a side note, I’ve finally accomplished one of my longest sought after, most failed at goal: to not bite my fingernails/fingers. For anyone who knows me, this was by far the most difficult habit for me to overcome and I’m extremely glad and proud that I finally pulled it off. Hopefully, it’ll be a permanent thing.
For those who can’t believe it, here’s some proof:

Stickel in da house
September 6, 2006
So Michael Q. Stickel finally made it, and the first impressions are in - he’s definitely gay. Wait, I mean not gay. Damn, first impressions are tricky.
It was cool to meet the man, the myth, and the legend in person. Now it’s time to let the geekery and dieting begin. Welcome to the States, Stickel.
Week 7 weigh-in - Kickin’ *** and takin’ names
July 20, 2006
Original Weight: 229
Week 1 Of Diet: 227
Week 2 Of Diet: 225
Week 3 Of Diet: 223
Week 4 Of Diet: 221
Week 5 Of Diet: 223
Week 6 Of Diet: 223
Week 7 Of Diet: 218
Total Weight Loss: 11 pounds in 7 weeks
I weighed in last night, and this isn’t an excuse, but this was with an additional pair of soaking wet pants with a wallet, medicine, cell phone, and who knows what else in them. With that said, with all those in there I still lost 5 pounds over the last week. I won’t have another chance to weigh-in again before next Tuesday so I am sticking with the 218 and see how it goes next week.
I had an extremely good week exercise wise this week. I did loads of situps and played a good amount of basketball in some pretty high heats. Needless to say as a fat guy I worked up quite a sweat and I’d say that helped quite a bit. I’ll most likely have a pretty active weekend, but I also think I’m going to eat a lot, so we’ll see how it goes for next week.
Keep up the good work everybody.
Week 5/6 Weigh-in
July 13, 2006
Original Weight: 229
Week 1 Of Diet: 227
Week 2 Of Diet: 225
Week 3 Of Diet: 223
Week 4 Of Diet: 221
Week 5 Of Diet: 223
Week 6 Of Diet: 223
Total Weight Loss: 6 pounds in 6 weeks
The delay in posting my weigh-ins has not been because of shame. I simply have not had the time or energy to post them. However, I have plateued a bit, but eventually I wanted to gain some weight. For the last two weeks my weight has been exactly the same, which is up two pounds. I haven’t been overeating and I have been exercising and it seems I am slimming down, so I’m chalking up the weight gain to muscle gain.
Week 2 Weigh In
June 15, 2006
This has been one crazy week for me. I started off great (up to Friday) with the diet, then the weekend there were plenty of empty beer calories, and then Sunday through Tuesday I didn’t eat anything due to a freak illness.
The bottom line is that I lost two pounds with all that hecticness, but it probably wasn’t the best way to lose them.
Original Weight: 229
Week 1 Of Diet: 227
Week 2 Of Diet: 225
Total Weight Loss: 4 pounds in 2 weeks
Strong will on diet carries over
June 7, 2006
I have noticed strongly that when I am being strict with my diet and exercise that this carries over in almost all aspects of my life.
I am much better organized and the cleanliness of my house/car is distinctly more noticeable. When I say I’m going to do something, it is more likely that I will do it when I’m in the determined state of mind. I’m not sure why I can’t be determined about somethings and not others, and I’m not sure if this is how everyone else is the same way.
Let me know if I’m the only freak out there.
Week 1’s day late weigh-in
June 7, 2006
I finally got to weigh-in this morning and the grand tally is (drumroll): -2 pounds.
Original Weight: 229
Week 1 Of Diet: 227
I’m actually very pleased with this number. I haven’t really cheated at all, and I have kept my calories at a very healthy level. I did a lot of exercise, but not enough to really be completely satisfied. This week is going to be tough for the exercise, but a new gym membership is definitely in order.
I also want to start weighing in on a different scale. This one is tough to read and is very low budget. I may pick up one that gives you your body fat percentage as well.
Keep up the good work, all.
Diet suggestions and updates
June 6, 2006
To anyone who is on “the diet” with us or anyone else who would just like to see how much calories/fat/etc. they eat throughout the day, I would highly suggest downloading Calorie King’s Nutrition and Exercise Manager (this link Mac only, Windows link here). This is shareware software that gives you a week demo to see if you like it. After using it only for a couple minutes, I’m sure this is going to be one piece of software that I invest in. It has a comprehensive database that has almost every food I could think of in it, from fast food to vegetables to how many calories basketball burns.
Another wonderful feature of that software is that based on your weight, height, and age it gives you the suggested amount of calories you should eat daily to lose a healthy amount of weight. I know this is a huge benefit for me. When I dieted previously I ate an unhealthily low amount of calories, which accomplishes nothing besides burning muscle instead of fat since your body will think you are starving and will store the fat for later use. Just a quick reminder to everyone that the range you should lose weekly on a diet is 2-4 pounds. There will be some weeks where you will lose less or more than that, but that should be a general average. Anything drastically over that is definitely not healthy for you, so remember to keep your goals realistic and healthy.
As my brother says, the way you lose fat and not muscle is by eating a lowering your caloric intake slightly and doing a slower paced, longer lasting cardio workout. Most machines will tell you the proper heart rate you should be at to burn the most fat.
This morning, when I was supposed to weigh-in, I conveniently forgot to weigh myself. I’m actually quite annoyed by it because now I have to wait an entire day to weigh myself fresh in the morning after a good night’s rest.
Last night at basketball, I was worried that I may have suffered a minor setback when I clicked knees with someone and by the end of the night I was in quite a bit of pain. So much so that I wasn’t even able to drive home. I iced it and today it feels almost 100% so hopefully if I take it easy it will be a non-issue.
Good luck and hope all is going well to everyone who is participating in our group effort to get healthy. Check back tomorrow to see the results of the weigh-in.
First weigh in
May 30, 2006
Current Weight: 229 pounds
Goal Weight: 220 pounds with great loss in body fat (not sure on the actual percentage yet)
Update: After lots and lots of pressure, I have given in and posted a before picture. As you can tell, most of my weight is in the love handle region. Can’t wait til those are gone.
This doesn’t seem like too daunting of a task, it is just getting off my butt and doing it. I think doing it in the past is of great encouragement because you realize how easy it is to do if you really put forth a major effort.
If you want to see some hilarity in action check out Colin’s before pictures.

Dieting once again
May 29, 2006
I did this once before, and now it’s time to do it again. The first time I was mighty successful, dropping well over 60 pounds. This winter I managed in gaining around 40 pounds of it back.
So, us geeks are going on a diet to reach our respective goals. My personal diet goal is to get down to 220 without much body fat. I’m not sure how low I want to go on body fat before I test to see how much I am currently. Once I figure that out I will post my exact goals.
If you would like to join in on the diet go to the diet page and leave a comment.
